The history of the Behrenshof

The Behrenshof in Versmold-Peckeloh was already mentioned by name in the 17th century. From the beginning, the farm has remained in the family without interruption, even if the name has changed occasionally due to marriage. In the 1970s, Heinz and Marianne Temme converted the farm, originally run as a mixed agricultural operation, to dairy farming. This branch of the business was given up at the end of the 1990s, shortly before Heinz Temme's death. In 1998, Peter and Marion Jennissen, née Temme, took over their parents' Behrenshof. In addition to the conversion of the house, the farm was converted into a horse farm. In 1998, the former pigsty was converted into a horse stable with 6 boxes. A short time later, the Trakehner El Paulo found his home there, which Marion had under the saddle from the age of 4 and with which she was able to celebrate successes in dressage classes L and M - right up to competing at advanced (S) level. He also paved the way for her daughter Cora's entry into dressage sport after good preparatory work with two fantastic ponies.

Our first mare

With the Oldenburg broodmare Sambarin (by Sion - San Vicente), which we acquired in foal, the first broodmare moved into the Behrenshof in 2006. Her daughter Samba de Janeiro by Sir Donnerhall took her place and in the meantime we already have beautiful daughters from the 3rd and 4th generation in the stable.

In the years that followed, we bought more high-quality fillies and initially gave them to Upmeyer Farm in Melle-Suttorf to be reared before they were broken in and used for breeding.

The riding facility

In 2011, a new open stable was built with space for 6 young horses and broodmares. This was followed in 2013 by the construction of an indoor riding arena, which is used together with the spacious riding arena to exercise the broodmares and train the young horses.

At the end of 2014, the old stables with 6 boxes were converted into a pure foaling stable with five very large foaling boxes. The attached stable wing with a further 9 large boxes for mares and training horses was inaugurated at the beginning of 2017
